How to Get the Most From AI

An AI Guide for Business Owners

AI is advancing faster than any of us imagined. Assets that once took months to create can now be generated in minutes.

Back in 2023, I interviewed Tim Moore, co-founder of Vū Technologies, who shared a prediction that stuck with me:

“We believe in the idea of content at the speed of thought, which is … as soon as I think it, I can.”

He wasn’t wrong.

AI is here to stay — and it’s reshaping how we work, build, and grow. Business owners who learn how to guide AI, not just use it, will thrive in this new AI-driven economy.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to get the most from AI — by treating it like a helpful assistant and using clear, strategic communication.

AI Is a Capable Assistant — but It Needs Guidance

Think of AI as a permanent addition to your team — smart, fast, and highly capable. But also inexperienced.

It’s like bringing on a new team member who has a lot of potential but doesn’t yet understand your business, your tone, your workflows, or your customers. You can’t expect great output without clear direction.

This is why context and specificity are so important when using AI. The more clearly you describe what you want, the better your results will be.

Don’t Assume AI Understands What You Mean

It’s easy to overestimate AI’s intelligence. Yes, it can generate text, analyze data, and help you brainstorm but it doesn’t “know” anything in the way a person does.

AI doesn’t have intuition, strategy, or lived experience — you do.

That’s why your input matters so much. You provide the ideas. You provide the thinking. AI helps you produce faster but only with the right guidance.

The 3 Elements of an Effective AI Prompt

Every strong prompt should include three essential elements:

Context – Tell AI what it needs to know. Who is this for? What’s the goal? What’s already been done?

Task – State clearly what you want. For example: “Write a 3-paragraph product description,” or “Summarize this email in a professional tone.”

Format – Explain the desired output. Do you want a list? A paragraph? A slide outline? Always specify.

These ingredients help you get what you want — without back-and-forth confusion.

The Better You Communicate, the Better AI Performs

When using AI tools, your communication skills are the real superpower.

If your prompt is vague or generic, the output will be too but if you’re detailed and descriptive, you’ll get tailored, valuable results — often in seconds.

It’s not about using fancy language. It’s about clarity, tone, and structure. That’s how you take full advantage of AI’s speed and scale.

Don’t Accept the First Response — Iterate

One of the most common mistakes people make? Assuming the first result from AI is the final one.

It rarely is.

The first draft is a starting point, not a final answer. AI improves when you give feedback, clarify, or change direction. Treat it like a collaborative tool and not a vending machine.

How to Follow Up with AI for Better Results

Here are a few prompt refinement techniques that make a big difference:

  • If the output misses the mark:
→ Review your original prompt. Refine the task, add missing context, or adjust the format.

  • If the result is too vague or generic:
→ Add constraints like: “Use language a 12-year-old could understand,” or “Make it sound bold and confident, not aggressive.”

  • If AI tries to do too much at once:
→ Break your request into smaller tasks. One step at a time.

  • If you’re not sure how to ask:
→ Use meta prompting: “Here’s what I’m trying to do — what’s the best way to ask you for it?”

Final Thoughts: Your Brain Still Leads the Way

AI is a powerful tool. It can accelerate production, boost creativity, and save time — if you use it well. But don’t forget: you’re still the decision-maker.

Your creativity, judgment, and intuition remain the most valuable assets in your business. AI enhances what you do — it doesn’t replace it.

I hope these tips help you get better results, more often, and with more confidence.
